27 Destinations I Experienced While I Was 27

Have you ever had a year so incredible that it lit a fire within you?

I’ve experienced some rather noteworthy years, such as winning Division I college tennis awards and the pleasure of living all around the South. However, while I was on an extended trip through Italy while I was twenty-seven, I truly grasped the meaning of life and found acceptance in myself.

Sounds poetic, a trip through Italy eating, sipping wine, sightseeing, and discovering ancient history unlike anything we have in the United States. Maybe even cliche. But this was the first time I traveled far enough to meet myself.

I’ve always been a highly-sensitive being. I feel strongly, love hard, and sometimes fall harder. And it was on this road trip through Italy; I finally loved my “sensitive super-power”. I had never been more motivated to fall in love with a place’s beautiful details and doing so unapologetically.

I was finally embracing my ability to feel the world passionately. The thrill of gaining a new cultural perspective through a friendly local. The enchanting views from the medieval hilltop towns of Tuscany. Learning to cook with love from a delightful chef from Trastevere. Discovering the hidden notes of a bold Italian red wine.

Travel and falling in love with other cultures is the best gift you can give yourself – especially if you’re a sensitive being, too. Discovering places where it’s gut-wrenching to say “goodbye.”

Years later, I’m still discovering more stories, influential people, and exciting destinations with this curiosity that was awakened years before.

My wish for everyone is the opportunity for a lifetime of adventures and to have as many experiences, near or far, and truly meet yourself.
